Olive Wood Set of Two Nesting Bowls
Hand carved by master wood workers of the Kamba tribe of Kenya, these olive wood bowls are both beautiful and functional - a perfect serving set for chip and dip, breads, snacks or candies. Properly maintained, these bowl will last for generations.
Olive wood, indigenous to Kenya, is legally sourced from sustainably managed lands, and the artists take great care to use every scrap of wood possible to maximize production and minimize waste.
To maintain olive wood properly, wash by hand and towel dry, then apply a thin coat of olive oil or food grade mineral oil and rub into the wood, wiping away any excess. This simple process will give the wood a deeper and deeper luster with time and create an almost impregnable barrier against moisture over time. My mother has an olive wood salad bowl that she has maintained carefully for 40+ years which looks lacquered due to the repeated oil treatments - and can easily hold a salad all evening and get wiped dry afterwards.
Imported into the US by a Fair Trade Federation member organization, funds raised from selling this product support a variety of community programs including education, women's empowerment and clean water.
