Set of 5 Wooden Dreidels

$29.95

These hardwood dreidels are a fully functional, classic children's toy which helps tell the story of Hanukkah. A set of 5 is enough for everyone to play and keep.

The dreidel is a spinning top used in a traditional Hanukkah game of the same name using both the top and chocolate coins. The top is spun and allowed to stop on it's own, falling with one of four sides facing up. Each side has a Hebrew letter inscribed on it.

a "nun", which is the abbreviation for "nes" meaning miracle

a "gimmel", which is the abbreviation for "gadol" meaning great

a "hey", which is the abbreviation for "haya" meaning occurred

a "shin", which is the abbreviation for "sham" meaning over there

The four sides tell the story of Hanukkah - a great miracle occurred over there, meaning in Judea. If the top falls with the "nun" showing, nothing happens. If it falls on the "gimmel" the spinner gets the entire pot of coins. If it falls on the "hey" the spinner gets half of the pot. If it falls on the "shin", the spinner pays into the pot. The winner is the one who manages to accumulate all the chocolate coins.

The dreidel is made of sustainably harvested maple hardwood, with a non-toxic teak oil finish, measures 2.5" tall by 1.25" square and recommended for children 7 and up.
