Cape Cod National Seashore Race Point Beach Fire Hose Dog Toy
Not just another dog toy; perhaps the perfect dog toy for the shredder in your household, made just for Arcadia.
These dog toys are made from decommissioned National Forest Service hose found in a dumpster out at Race Point Beach, Cape Cod National Seashore. Once a hose fails pressure testing, it typically gets thrown away. That's a real shame both because it's nearly indestructible so it will never degrade fully and also because it's coated with fire retardant, which is bad for the environment. Janelle and her assistants who make these toys (and our totes and engineer bags) carefully strip down the hose, remove the retardant with a solvent soak, and then repurpose the hose into these amazing toys.
Janelle is a volunteer firefigher and EMT, and her her assistants are all women who are participating in a shelter program for women in abusive situations or in recovery from addiction.
So each toy helps women get back on their feet, repurposes fire hose to keep it out of the waste stream, keeps your puppy happily gnawing safely, PLUS I donate $1 for each sale to the Provincetown animal shelter, CASAS. Each toy comes with a label that says, "This hose is from Cape Cod National Seashore - Race Point Beach".
Hose measures 9.75" by 2.5" by1/2" thick plus 10" heavy duty cotton handles.
